Purpose
Teacher's conventions have been established through legislation in the province for the purpose of providing teachers with forums whereby they can renew their professional skills on an annual basis.
Given that teacher's attendance is obligatory, South Eastern Alberta Teachers Convention Association should develop annual programs of general interest to teachers at all levels and in a variety of curriculum areas. Convention planning should take into account the needs of individual teachers to become aware of new knowledge and trends in teaching and school organization and to establish and broaden communications with other teachers on matters of professional concern.
The general nature of the conventions should be emphasized by choosing themes with broad appeal, by retaining keynote speakers whose message will interest the majority of teachers and by restricting presentations by outside special interest groups.
